How To Get More Involved In Campus Life

Although you go to campus to learn, it is also beneficial to get involved in one or more activities on campus. Below are Six suggestions for meeting new people and expanding your social and educational experiences during college.
If you’ve been thinking about how to get more involved in university activities and you don’t know how to go about it, here are Six ways you can get involved with campus life.
1. Join or start a club
Joining the right clubs and societies on campus allows fresh students to make new friends and enhances their academic pursuit on campus.
You can either start or join an interest-based group like a study group or activity based ones like dance and sports groups.
And if you are passionate about politics and activism, you will find expression in the student union. Just make your self a member of a club, an organization or a society on campus.
E.g Red cross society, man o'war, university campus journalist
2. Participate in Student Government
Not only can joining student government help you meet more people and get involved with important campus matters, it’s great for your resume. You’ll gain leadership skills, make connections with a diverse body of students and be able to demonstrate that you participated in a central decision-making activity.
Not only that, but you will also hear about upcoming events on campus that you can get out and attend.
3. Contribute to your university magazine
If you think your writing skill is okay, okay enough for publications, why not join the campus press team and get your name printed on some stories.
With this, you’ll find yourself among campus creative writers and students from other departments who are members of the campus press club.
4. Community Service and Volunteering
Community service and volunteering can really help broaden your horizons. More and more campuses are integrating volunteering and service learning directly into the curriculum.
If you aren’t taking any service learning courses, consider looking for campus-based volunteer organizations that can help you give back to your community alongside your peers.
Options may range from tutoring local children to helping build homes or cleaning up neighborhood streets. Not only will this provide you with a sense of pride for giving back to your community, but it will provide you with valuable skills and (surprise, surprise) help to build your resume.
5. Attend Campus Events
Attending campus events is one of the best ways to getting involved in the what goes on on campus.
Such events as music, theatre performances, movie screenings and dance performance are very common on campus. And these events apart from being an avenue for meeting people and making new friends are good alternatives for you to unwind.
6. Get a Job on Campus
Who couldn’t use a little extra money or a way to help pay for tuition? Work study and on-campus jobs are an excellent way to meet new people, make new connections and learn more about various college and university services. Usually, work study and on-campus positions are more flexible when it comes to your school schedule and student life, too.
